This past summer, the devastating consequences of natural hazards were abundantly clear. Severe storms, including tornadoes in Eastern Montana, swept through the state, uprooting trees and leaving communities without power for extended periods. Wildfires burned significant areas, consuming resources, forcing evacuations, and polluting the air. Few areas were spared from the destructive forces of nature. For educators, these distressing events can serve as powerful catalysts for authentic student learning experiences. The free, statewide RISE Challenge Big Sky program offers a unique opportunity to engage middle and high school students in Project-Based and Place-Based Learning (PBL). By combining civics and STEAM, this program can be easily aligned to education standards in any content area and provides ongoing coaching to support every student team’s success. The RISE Challenge equips students with lifelong, durable skills as they conduct research, connect with community stakeholders and industry experts, collaboratively develop projects, and communicate their processes and outcomes. Every student team can be eligible for funding to implement their project, along with the chance to win prize money at the annual spring Summit competition. Join us to discover how to leverage these recent events to inspire and empower your students through the RISE Challenge!

This session is in partnership with and hosted by MTPLC.
